  1. United Nations International Mother Language Day is annually observed across the globe on 21 February to encourage linguistic and cultural diversity as well as multilingualism. The theme of the International Mother Language Day 2023 is “Multilingual education – a necessity to transform education”. 
  2. India celebrates Soil Health Card Day on 19 February every year to remember the beginning of the Soil Health Card (SHC) Scheme and to raise awareness of its advantages.
  3. Punjab Government has organized its first state-level ‘Prawn Fair’ (Shrimp mela) on 17 February, 2023 at Enakhera village in Muktsar district. This ‘Prawn Fair’ or Shrimp mela is an effort of the state government to create awareness about shrimp farming.
  4. As part of a military-to-military exchange program between the Indian and Uzbekistan Army, the 4th edition of biennial training Exercise DUSTLIK (2023) began on 21 February, 2023 in Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand.
  5. The Minister for Communications, Electronics & Information Technology and Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurated the ‘SemiconIndia Conference of Electronics Manufacturing Supply Chain Ecosystem’ on 18 February, 2023. 
  6. In a move to boost the transition to electric vehicles (EVs), the European Parliament has approved the law to ban the sale of new gas and diesel cars in the European Union, starting in 2035. 
  7. The UN Commission for Social Development has elected India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ruchira Kamboj as its chair for the 62nd session.  
  8. India’s first indigenously developed Train Control and Supervision System, the i-ATS (Indigenous–Automatic Train Supervision) deployed on the Delhi Metro by a joint team of DMRC and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), under the Government of India’s ‘Make in India’ and ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiatives for metro rail transit systems.
  9. Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on 20 February, 2023 laid the foundation stone of the world’s largest and unique Divyang Park – Anubhuti Inclusive Park in Nagpur, Maharashtra.
  10. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated the 2nd edition of the State Biodiversity Congress with the theme, ‘Biodiversity and Livelihood’ in Kozhikode, Kerala on 19 February, 2023. 
  11. Vivek Agnihotri’s ‘The Kashmir Files’ and SS Rajamouli’s ‘RRR’ won the Best Film and Film of the Year award respectively at the Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival Awards 2023.
  12. Virat Kohli became the sixth and the fastest batter in the world to score 25,000 runs across formats during the second Test against Australia, which India won by six wickets.
  13. Qatar has lifted its temporary ban on the import of frozen seafood from India, paving the way for enhanced export and improved bilateral relations with the West Asian country, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry said in a statement.
  14. Antaris announced that the world’s first satellite fully conceived, designed, and manufactured using the company’s end-to-end cloud platform, JANUS-1 has successfully reached orbit. JANUS-1 rode on the Indian Space Research Organization’s (ISRO) SSLV-D2 rocket.
  15. The 18th World Security Congress is being organised in Jaipur from 21-23 February, 2023.
  16. Tollywood actor and politician Nandamuri Taraka Ratna passed away on 18 February, 2023 at the age of 39 in Bengaluru.
